Rainbow Mountain Full-Day Itinerary
Your adventure begins with a 4:00 AM hotel pickup in Cusco, followed by a 2.5-hour drive to Cusipata for breakfast. After breakfast, we continue on a scenic unpaved road for about 1 hour drive to the trailhead, enjoying views of stunning landscapes, deep canyons, and snow-capped peaks from the Ausangate Mountain range, herd of llamas and alpacas as well as glimpses of the Red Valley and Rainbow Mountain.
Upon arrival at the trailhead, we begin our hike. After approximately 1.5 hours of trekking, we reach the spectacular Vinicunca Mountain (Rainbow Mountain) at an altitude of 5,036 meters (16,522 feet). Here, you’ll have time to rest, take pictures, enjoy a light snack, and marvel at the vibrant colors of this natural wonder.
After taking in the incredible views, we begin our descent back to the parking area, and then drive via the same road to Cusipata for a well-earned lunch. Finally, we return to Cusco, arriving at your hotel between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM.

Price for the Rainbow Mountain Peru Hike Full Day
To book the Rainbow Mountain Peru hike, an initial payment of $ 20 USD per person is required. The remaining balance can be paid online or in person at our office in Cusco. The deposit can be made via We Travel, Western Union or MoneyGram. If you rent camping and hiking gear, upgrade tours or receive a discount of the total price our sales team will email you the updated remaining balance payable at our Cusco office.
Note. If you are in Cusco already, then you can book Rainbow Mt with us and pay for it in cash as well.

Red Valley
The Red Valley in Peru is a stunning, lesser-known natural landscape located near Rainbow Mountain. It’s famous for its deep red terrain, created by iron-rich soil, and for its peaceful, uncrowded trails. Often compared to the surface of Mars, the Red Valley offers a unique hiking experience filled with surreal beauty and panoramic Andean views.
We include and customize this hike when you book the Rainbow Mountain tour with us as a private tour. However, if you join one of our group tours, access to Red Valley is optional and the entrance ticket costs 20 soles (approximately $5.50 USD).
Horses
At the start of the hike, you’ll have the option to hire a horse and horseman if you prefer not to walk the full distance. Payment is made directly to the horseman at the end of the service. It cost 70 soles.
Trekking Poles
If you’d like to rent trekking poles for the duration of the hike, the cost is $5 USD per person.

- Camel Back or water. bottle, (snacks and energy drinks).
